Urduña Herri Eskola is a local school, small in its grandeur: we are a single-room school with a cloister of around 200 children and around 25 teacher-educators. The current building will be 30 years old in November 2025.
Preschool Education is the stage between 0 and 6 years old and is divided into 2 cycles. Our school’s offer is as follows: Cycle 1 includes classes for 2 and 3 year olds and Cycle 2 includes classes for 4 and 5 year olds.
The purpose of Early Childhood Education is to help achieve the integral and harmonious development of all children in all dimensions – physical, emotional, sexual, affective, social, cognitive and artistic – by promoting personal autonomy and progressively creating a positive and balanced self-image, as well as contributing to an education based on civic values for coexistence. All this, in close collaboration with families.
The Primary Education stage is from 6 to 12 years old. It is organized into three cycles: Cycle 1 consists of grades 1 and 2; Cycle 2 consists of grades 3 and 4 and Cycle 3 consists of grades 5 and 6.
The objective of Basic Education, through its two stages, is to develop and consolidate oral and written expression and comprehension skills, as well as logical and mathematical skills, and to provide students with the basic elements of culture, in its humanistic, scientific-technological, artistic and motor areas.
All students must adopt and consolidate healthy living habits, habits of coexistence and habits of study and work, in order to guarantee a comprehensive training that will help them fully develop their personality and, thus, fully exercise their rights and obligations as citizens and prepare them to begin further studies and enter the workforce in the future.
To ensure a proper educational trajectory, systematic coordination between schools is provided to oversee the transitions between stages.
The children of Urduña begin their educational journey in the town itself, at the Consortium’s Nursery School. They have the opportunity to complete the 0-2 years stage there. It is there that they have their first encounters with the school, such as waking up the earth or on Basque language day.
The next stop on the route is the Zaraobe Institute in Amurrio, which is the reference school that offers the secondary school stage.
The Zaraobe Institute has become a cultural reference for the entire valley, and many residents of the region have chosen to study there. The Zaraobe Institute has experienced many changes, like our territory, and has maintained its wide educational offer in the Ayala Valley.
